Regulated Strategy

A business method that includes the person running the business.

Seven stages I use to move from a stuck business problem to a real move, without assuming the answer is either “push harder” or “calm down.”

Ambitious enough for the business.
Safe enough for the nervous system.

The goal isn’t permanent calm. Business needs activation: risk, visibility, decisions, difficult conversations.

The question is whether we can find a useful edge: enough challenge to create new evidence and capacity, not so much force that you disappear, flood, or spend the next week recovering.

The seven stages

From stuck to moving. In order, because the order is the point.

Most coaching jumps straight to stage six and wonders why nothing sticks.

Business Reality

What’s actually happening. Revenue, pipeline, offer, workload, team, the decisions being quietly avoided. Facts first, on one page, before we explain anything psychologically.

A consultant came in saying everything was on fire. We mapped it. Two things were on fire. The other eleven were fine. That understanding changed everything for her.

Relationship to the Issue

Not what the problem is, but what happens in you when you get close to it. More urgency? Fog? A sudden need to research? An urge to make everyone happy?

A founder could talk about his pipeline fluently for an hour. Ask him about the one enterprise deal he wasn’t chasing, and he’d change the subject in two sentences. Every time. That’s not strategy. That’s the body steering around something.

Somatic Mapping

If it’s useful, we bring attention to the body. Sensation gives information the story skips. We stay curious about it rather than treating every tight chest as proof of a specific trauma response.

One client’s stomach clenched every time she rehearsed raising her rates. Same spot, every time. Once she could feel it coming, she stopped letting it lead.

Adaptive Strategy

Every stuck place is an old strategy that once kept you safe. Underpricing kept you liked. Overworking kept you valuable. We don’t fight the pattern or pathologise it. We look at what it protects, what it costs now, and what it would take to update it.

“I realised my discounting wasn’t a pricing problem. It was a strategy for staying safe in the room. Very effective when I was 14. Very expensive in the proposal today.”

Safety Design

Before the stretch, we build the conditions that let your system try something new without tripping the old alarm. Small doses, real evidence, so the body learns we did the scary thing and nothing bad happened.

Before one client raised prices for everyone, he raised them for one new lead. One. His body got to survive it and file it under “apparently fine.” The full increase took ten minutes after that.

Strategic Stretch

Then we do something real. Send the proposal. Ask for the price increase. Publish. Delegate to the team. Push back on investors. Have the difficult conversation. The same move you’ve been avoiding, done from a body that’s ready rather than bracing.

The email that had been “almost ready” for four months went out on a Tuesday morning. She said the strangest part was how boring it felt to send. That’s what ready feels like.

Integrate the Learning

What happened? What did the market tell us? What should become a policy, script, rhythm or AI workflow so next time needs less heroism? Willpower is weather; systems are climate.

One founder kept becoming the bottleneck on client work. We turned the fix into a one-page brief his team could actually run. The next project shipped without him in the middle.

What we hold together

Three things, all of them, at once.

Business coaches skip the body.
Somatic coaches skip the profit and loss.
Therapists, rightly, skip your pipeline. 🙂
This only works because we deal with all three.

The business itself

Offer, pricing, pipeline, marketing, delegation, systems. Commercially serious. If the plan doesn’t make money, the rest is just an expensive feeling.

The nervous system

What your body does when you approach the hard thing. We track it, work with it, and build the capacity to stay present where you used to brace or bolt.

The pattern underneath

The old strategy that once kept you safe and now limits your business. We don’t shame it. We understand it, then update it through real business moves.

AI isn’t a fourth thing. It’s the tool that runs through all three: drafting, rehearsing, comparing, turning a decision into a system. It supports the method. It doesn’t replace the person.

The rhythm

Think of muscle training. Growth needs some load, and load needs some recovery before you can grow again. In the business, we do the same: approach an edge, come back, learn, then approach again. We’re not trying to win an award for tolerating discomfort. We’re expanding what you can do while keeping the business commercially honest.

Four ways to put the method to work.

A 90-minute workshop, a single one-on-one session, a six-week group lab, or twelve weeks of private advisory.
